Asia’s Largest Balloon Fiesta in Saga, Japan: Oct 30–Nov 3 Guide to the Festival That Has Drawn 800,000+

That crisp fall breeze always makes me want to plan a getaway—and the Saga balloon festival is a pretty spectacular reason to go.
If you’re planning a trip to Japan between October 30 and November 3, especially to Saga Prefecture, put this one on your radar!

Every fall, an incredible festival fills the skies over Saga Prefecture, Japan, with enormous hot air balloons in a rainbow of colors.

It’s the Saga International Balloon Fiesta, the largest event of its kind in Asia!

With 100–120 or more balloons participating from around the world and a cumulative attendance of over 800,000, this is a truly international celebration. Wondering when it takes place this year and what’s on the program? Good Dayhas you covered—let’s take a closer look!

2026 Saga Balloon Festival: Essential Information

  • Dates: Friday, October 30–Tuesday, November 3, 2026

  • Location: The Kase River riverbed and surrounding grounds in Saga City, Saga Prefecture, Japan

  • Main events: The lineup includes the 2026 Saga International Balloon Fiesta, the 39th Pacific Cup, Round 3 of the 2026 Honda Grand Prix, and Balloon Fantasia, with plenty of competitions and displays to enjoy.

Before You Go: Important Access Information

Must-See Balloon Fiesta Events

  • Main morning flight, around 7 a.m.: Weather permitting, dozens—or even a hundred or more—balloons rise into the sky together. This is the moment you’ll want to see with your own eyes!

  • Balloon Fantasia: A must if you’re visiting with kids! You can get wonderfully close to giant, creatively shaped balloons modeled after cute animals and popular characters.

Event Schedule

Getting to the Saga Balloon Fiesta: Transportation Tips

Festival crowds are much bigger than the area’s usual foot traffic, so figuring out your route ahead of time makes a real difference.

  • Take the train to temporary Balloon Saga Station: This temporary station on the JR Nagasaki Main Line opens only during the festival. If you’re departing from Saga Station, rather than relying on a transit card, buy a single-use train ticketahead of time for a much smoother trip.

  • Driving? Use Park & Bus: If you’re driving in from farther away, I strongly recommend leaving your car at a parking lot in Saga City or a temporary lot at Yoshinogari Historical Park. From there, use the nonstop shuttle bus service to the area behind the venue’s northern embankment, or travel by train.

  • Loop shuttle bus: Make the most of the loop bus, too: for just ¥100, you can travel between the balloon festival grounds, related event venues, and participating parking lots.

Visiting with Kids or Pets

  • Bringing children: The outdoor riverside venue is huge, with embankments and plenty of uneven ground. Crowds can make it hard to see where you’re going, so hold little hands tightly and keep a close eye on your children.

  • Bringing pets: The venue can get crowded and noisy. Before you go, check the official website’s pet guidelines so you can plan a safe visit for everyone.

Just imagine all those colorful balloons filling the autumn sky—it’s the kind of sight that makes a trip feel truly special.

If you’re hoping to make some unforgettable memories this fall, consider a visit from October 30 to November 3, 2026, for the Saga balloon festival. Check the schedule and transportation details ahead of time, and give yourself the best chance of a smooth, memorable trip!
