Busan–Incheon KTX, Korea: December Guide—Skip Seoul Station?

Hi, it’s Good Day! Let’s talk about the Busan–Incheon KTX and what it means for your next airport trip.
Planning an overseas trip is exciting, but figuring out how to get to the airport? That can be the stressful part.
A flight straight out of Busan, South Korea, would be ideal. But if you’re traveling from Busan or another regional city to Incheon International Airport, hauling suitcases through multiple transfers can leave you exhausted before you’ve even checked in.

There’s good news: KTX service from Incheon is finally set to launch in late December this year, promising relief from traffic and inconvenient journeys for residents of Incheon and southwestern Gyeonggi Province! So, how will it change the trip from Busan to Incheon Airport—and what gaps still need to be filled? Good Daybreaks it all down for you!

Busan–Incheon KTX Guide: Finally Launching This December

Until now, residents of Incheon and southwestern Gyeonggi Province have had to travel out of their way to Seoul Station or Gwangmyeong Station to catch trains to Busan and other regional destinations. With the launch of KTX service from Incheon, travel between Busan and Songdo will drop to roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes, marking a major step forward for high-speed rail in the region.

There’s one catch, though. When the service first launches, there won’t be a direct airport limousine bus connecting Songdo Station with Incheon Airport. That means the final leg will still take a little extra effort. For now, there are two main ways to reach Incheon Airport after getting off at Songdo Station.

  • Local Bus: Route 330

  • Travel time: About 60 minutes

  • Frequency: About every 25 minutes

  • What to know: It’s budget-friendly, but boarding a regular city bus with a heavy suitcase can be a hassle.

  • Taxi

  • Travel time: About 25 minutes

  • Estimated fare: About $25–$30, depending on traffic

  • What to know: This is the fastest, most convenient option, but the fare is the downside.

Good Day’s Tip: Incheon is also pursuing an extension of KTX service to Incheon Airport to make these transfers easier, with the aim of having it included in the Fifth National Railway Network Plan. Hopefully, that means a smoother airport connection down the road!

Other Ways to Get from Busan to Incheon Airport

So, which route makes the most sense if you’re flying overseas from Incheon? Here’s a comparison of three main options from Busan.

  • Korean Air Transit-Only Domestic Flight: Gimhae → Incheon

– Travel time: About 1 hour and 20 minutes, with approximately 5 flights a day
– Eligibility and advantages: These flights are exclusively for passengers connecting to international departures at Incheon Airport. They offer the fastest journey and a seamless flight connection. You cannot book them as a standalone domestic trip.

  • KTX + AREX Airport Railroad: Busan Station → Seoul/Gwangmyeong Station → Incheon Airport

– Travel time: About 3 to 3½ hours total
– Advantages: Train services are highly punctual. Once direct KTX service to Incheon launches, you’ll also have more route options, including traveling via Songdo Station.

  • Express and Intercity Limousine Buses: Busan (Sasang/Haeundae) → Incheon Airport

– Travel time: About 5 hours or more
– Advantages: You can travel straight to Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 without changing vehicles. An overnight bus is especially handy if you want to sleep along the way and reach the airport in the early morning.

The Busan–Incheon KTX will make traveling from Busan to the Incheon area significantly easier.
However, without an airport limousine bus connection, the transfer between Songdo Station and Incheon Airportwill remain an inconvenience travelers have to work around for the time being.

Choose the route that best suits your schedule, travel companions, and—just as importantly—how much luggage you’re bringing. Have questions about timetables or fares for a particular leg of the journey?
